The Families that Founded Goshen


Rand Family – Francis Rand (1616-1691) was the original immigrant from this branch of the Rand family of England, arriving in the part of Portsmouth that is now the town of Rye, NH in 1631. 

Grindle Family – Daniel and Elizabeth Grindle – 1780 purchased 75-acre property in the part Sunapee which became Goshen in 1791.

Lang Family – William Lang (1730/34-1812) was born in Portsmouth, NH, where he married Elizabeth Rand (1730-) in 1751. They had seven children, all of them born in Portsmouth. Lang was a soldier in the French & Indian War.
