Mill Village

On Route 10, Mill Village was home to businesses and gathering places alike.

Grist Mill and Sawmill – A view from Lear Hill toward Route 10. The Grist Mill is the building in the middle of the photo. The 1756 Mill Village Hostelry and Inn is in the back, across from Route 10. It burned sometime after 1969.
Hanson Store & Post Office. This building still stands.
Grange Hall and Barn. The barn was used by the Grange for horses, during meetings, until it burned down.
Goshen Community Baptist Church
Chamberlain’s Store, This building is still standing, now is home to apartments and the post office.

Mill Village School is also a Plank House. It is still standing.
Grist Mill, Sawmill, Blacksmith Shop. The Grist mill is in the front, the sawmill behind it, and the blacksmith building is in the rear.
Blacksmith Shop & Fulling Mill – The blacksmith shop is on the left. The fulling mill on the right still stands on Lear Hill Road next to the South Branch of the Sugar River, near Route 10.
Gas Station & Store. The 1916 truck was made by Abbott & Downing in Concord. We think there is some connection to the Peckham family. This building still stands.
Community Church Interior
Mill Village Inn & Hostelry – This old inn, presently owned by Michael and Patricia Faughnam, is the oldest landmark of its kind still in operation. It was first operated as a stagecoach stop in 1756. (Daily Eagle, October 1, 1969 – click for article)

The inn burned down sometime after 1969. As the photo shows it was located across Route 10 from Lear Hill Road.  A house is now located there.
