Writers from Goshen
Nothing stands the test of time like the written word. Here is a collection of writings from both young and old, men and women. Please let us know if there are others that should be included on these pages.
- The Nelson Boy’s Books – There are over 60 books written by “The Nelson Boy’s” regarding their adventures in Goshen. They wandered the woods, forged the rivers, and captured islands detailing their childhood years in our small town.
- The Building of the Goshen Meeting House; By Ronald G. Whitney – “An institution,” Ralph Waldo Emerson once observed, “is the lengthened shadow of one man.” In the case of the lovely old meeting house now known as the Goshen Community Church his words are particularly appropriate for it was built almost single-handedly in 1851 by the determined faith and indefatigable labor on one man – the Reverend Eleazer D. Farr. “He was the only building committee,” wrote his son Oren years afterward, “and he was personally responsible for everything as much as if it was his own house.”
- Ida Nelson’s Lyceum Articles – A collection of writings by Ida Nelson for the Lyceum. Included are articles, reflections, and poetry from the period surrounding 1975.
Walter R. Nelson – Goshen historian Walter R. Nelson wrote his first history of Goshen at twenty years of age. It became the basis of his major work entitled History of Goshen New Hampshire Settled 1769 Incorprtaes (sic) 1791 which was published in 1957 and reprinted n 1984.
